Audition and Placement Information

At INNOVATION Dance Company, membership is exclusively granted through an audition process. For aspiring new dancers eager to become part of IDC, auditioning is the initial step to showcase their talent and dedication by learning a combo and performing it in front of our panel. Returning company dancers, on the other hand, are required to attend a mandatory placement assessment day, ensuring that they are appropriately positioned within the company to nurture their growth and skills. These processes allow us to maintain the high standards and excellence that define our dance company.

If you are auditioning from another team or studio, please complete the Audition and Placement Registration Form prior to the day.

INNOVATION Audition & Placement Day

Mandatory for all dancer’s participating in INNOVATION’s 2025-2026 Season

Auditions and Placement day is mandatory for all dancers – returning dancers to INNOVATION, VDA dancers audition for INNOVATION and new dancers auditioning from another team/studio.

This is when you will receive your placement for the upcoming season.  At this time, dancers will learn a new 4-6 eight count combo that they will have to perform in groups for our panel judges. Dancers will be evaluated on their ability to pick up choreography, technique and performance/showmanship. This will determine a dancer’s placement for the following season.

The age ranges on the schedule is just a guideline.  We aim to have an entire level fall within an age range, such as “5-7”, “7-9”, etc.  However, the dancers within those levels are a range of those ages, and some may be younger or older depending on talent & maturity.  Number of years in a level is not the full deciding factor at our auditions.  Dancers typically stay within a level for 2-3 years.

  • If this will be a dancer’s 3rd year in a level, your dancer is welcome to attend placement at the next level up.  However, your dancer must also attend placement at the level they were at the last season as well.
  • The directors may ask dancers who have only been in a level for a year or two to stay for the next level placement.  We will notify you at auditions if your dancer is asked to stay.
